The sixth chart from the Sajou archives of vintage samplers. Cross-stitch was extremely popular in rural areas all over the world to decorate simple rustic garments and was a skill passed down from generation to generation.
Size of motif: 178 x 276 stitches. When embroidered on 12 count linen over two threads, this will give you a finished stitched size of 29.7 x 46cm.
You can use Retors du Nord 2030 (red) or 2882 (sapphire). Or for an alternative, try it with our Calais cocoons in fire (6932) or cornflower (6934), variegated threads which give a surprisingly lovely result.
Attention: if you use our variegated threads, be sure to sew whole crosses and to take up the embroidery at the same place when you change threads. If you interrupt the shading, the result will be less spectacular.
